If this sounds like you

You don't lack desire. You lack a rhythm.

  • You've started more Bible reading plans than you've finished.
  • You open to a chapter, read it, and close it unsure what you were supposed to take away.
  • You want to know Jesus, not just know about Him. You're just not sure where to begin.

Most of the Christians I've pastored over the last twenty years don't struggle with wanting to be in the Bible. They struggle with Tuesday. And slowly, quietly, guilt moves into the place where God used to feel close.

If that's you, I want to say something plainly: you are not a bad Christian. You were handed a goal without a rhythm. Nobody showed you a simple, repeatable way to open Scripture, understand it, meet Jesus in it, and carry one thing into your day.

That's what these 55 days are for. Not a plan to keep up with. A path to walk, one morning at a time, with someone beside you who's walked it before.

See how a day works

How it works

One email a morning. Three small things inside.

  1. Read 2 min

The day's passage from John, usually ten to twenty verses. You'll always know exactly where to open your Bible.

  2. Reflect 3 min

A short, plain-spoken devotional that helps you understand what you just read and hands you one thing to carry into the day.

  3. Listen 8ish min

A link to that day's 8ish Minute Bible Study episode, where I walk through the same passage verse by verse. Press play on the drive, on a walk, or while the coffee brews.

The email takes about five minutes. The episode adds eight-ish more when you have them. Some days you'll do all three. Some days you'll read the passage in the school pickup line. It all counts.

The whole journey, mapped

Fifty-five days. One Gospel. You'll never wonder what's next.

From "In the beginning was the Word" to "Do you love me?", every morning is already laid out. Here are a few of the days ahead.

  1. Day 1

    The Word Became Flesh

    John 1:1–14
  2. Day 8

    Living Water

    John 4:1–26
  3. Day 16

    The Bread of Life

    John 6:25–40
  4. Day 24

I Am the Light of the World

    John 8:12–30
  5. Day 31

    I Am the Resurrection

    John 11:1–44
  6. Day 39

I Am the Way, the Truth, the Life

    John 14:1–14
  7. Day 50

    It Is Finished

    John 19:17–30
  8. Day 55

    Do You Love Me?

    John 21:15–25

…and 47 more mornings in between, every one already written and recorded.

  • It comes to you.

No app to open, no bookmark to find, no plan to remember. Each morning's email is waiting when you are.

  • No catching up.

Miss a day? Nothing breaks and nobody's counting. Tomorrow's email arrives like nothing happened. Start where you are.

  • No guessing.

You'll always know what to read and what it means. The hard part of Bible study, figuring out what's going on, is done for you.

  • No homework.

A few minutes is enough. If you want to go deeper, the episode is right there. If you don't, tomorrow still comes.

Where this leads

The goal was never to finish John.

Somewhere around Day 55, you'll notice a few things have quietly happened. You've read an entire Gospel start to finish, maybe for the first time. You know Jesus better. Not just facts about Him, but the way He speaks, the way He notices people, the way He handles doubt and grief and dinner parties. And you've spent 55 days practicing how to open Scripture and understand it.

  • A whole Gospel, read start to finishAll 21 chapters of John, in order, with nothing skipped.
  • A clearer picture of who Jesus isLight, bread, shepherd, vine, way. You'll have met Him in every one.
  • Confidence opening the Bible on your ownFifty-five days of practice reading, understanding, and applying Scripture.
  • A rhythm you can keepA simple way of meeting with Jesus in His Word that carries into whatever you read next.

The point isn't that you finished a book. It's that you learned how to keep showing up, and found out you can.

Walking with you

Hi, I'm Josh.

I've been a pastor for about twenty years, most of them in Fort Worth, Texas. I have a doctorate in Christian Formation and Discipleship, which is a long way of saying I've spent my life studying how people actually grow closer to God. Here's what I've noticed: it's rarely the people with the most time or the most degrees. It's the people with a rhythm.

I started 8ish Minute Bible Study for the folks in my church who loved Jesus and felt stuck. Busy parents. Tired nurses. College students. Retirees who hadn't read the Bible on their own in years. Eight-ish minutes, verse by verse, plain English. 55 Days in John is that same heart, delivered to your inbox with a little more structure and a lot more company.

"Come and see." — John 1:39

Day 1 is ready when you are.

Fifty-five mornings from now, you'll have walked through the entire Gospel of John with Jesus, a few minutes at a time. All it takes to begin is today.

A few honest questions

Is it really free?

Yes. There's nothing to buy. Sign up and Day 1 is on its way.

What happens when I sign up?

Check your inbox for a note from me, then Day 1 follows. From there it's one email each morning for 55 days: the passage, a short devotional, and a link to that day's episode. Everything happens in your inbox. There's nothing to download and no app to install.

How much time does it take each day?

About five minutes to read the passage and the devotional. The podcast episode is eight-ish more if you want to go deeper. Some days you'll do both, some days you'll only manage the email. It all counts.

What if I miss a day?

Nothing happens. Tomorrow's email still arrives and you pick up there. Go back to the one you missed if you'd like, or just keep walking. There's no falling behind because there's no scoreboard.

Do I have to listen to the podcast?

No. Each email stands on its own. The episode is there for the days you want more, and you can listen wherever you already listen to podcasts.

Which Bible translation do I need?

Whichever one you already have and like. Each morning's email tells you exactly which verses to read.

What happens after Day 55?

You keep the rhythm. I'll still show up in your inbox about once a week with encouragement and what's next, and you can step out anytime with one click.
